2017 North Port Invitational Boys Preview
George M. Steinbrenner – The Warriors started their season off on a high note with a win at the Lecanto Invitational. En route to their win they placed seven runners before the 2nd place team, Newsome, had 4 in. At the North Port Invite, they will likely put five runners in before any other team’s number three. They will be lead up front with a strong 1 – 2 punch in Davis Bly and McCrea Weller.
Robinson – The battle for 2nd place will be a close one. When racing head to head at Babe Zaharias, Citrus Park Christian got the edge over Robinson with a score of 69 to 74. North Port will have at least three times as many teams competing which will benefit Robinson in the 5th position, more than it benefits CPC in the first. Robinson’s number 5 runner finished 47 seconds ahead of CPC’s number five at Babe Zaharias, 18:03 to 18:50. In a major invitational a spread that big can be a 100 point swing. The Robinson boys will be lead up front by Ethan Geiger.
Citrus Park Christian – Not Competing
Davis Bly (Steinbrenner) – Bly will be leading a Warrior team that is hoping to do big things in November. Bly placed 3rd at the Lecanto Invitational in a time of 16:46, 54 seconds behind Trevor Foley and 6 seconds behind Jacob Hensley of Citrus High School. Despite being the number 4 ranked runner by time, he beat the number two ranked runner (Reed Legg) by 34 seconds at Lecanto.
McCrea Weller (Steinbrenner) – Steinbrenner’s number two guy finished fourth at the Lecanto Invitational in a time of 16:52, just six seconds behind his teammate Bly. Weller has been a good surprise for the Warrior team this year. In 2016 was on and off their JV team, only breaking 18 minutes one time last season.
Ethan Geiger (Robinson) – Geiger opened his season at the Babe Zaharias track meet with a very fast 16:21. He followed it up with a 16:49 at the Wiregrass Ranch Invitational.
