Week 2 Class 2A Girls Top 10: Florida Cross Country Rankings

Florida Class 2A girls cross country through two weeks: August 21-29, 2026

Seven of last week's ten had never raced. This week three of the projections finally have company: a Berkeley Prep junior opened, an Oasis junior raced her way up, and an eighth grader from Cocoa Beach won a meet by two and a half minutes. The projections that raced did not all survive it, and the ones that stayed home are running out of cover. Episcopal and Carrollton, holding four spots on this page between them, have still not put a girl on a start line in 2026.

As always, this is data plus judgment, and we will miss somebody along the way. A (P) next to a name means she has not opened yet and we are going on last November. How we sorted it out is at the bottom. Races are not won until the kids have run. Enjoy.

1. Selah Vignier, West Shore (Melbourne), Jr.

Two races now, and the same conclusion twice. The 2A state champion followed her 18:55.0 at Cecil Field with a win at the Kowboy Invitational in 19:06.1, worth about 19:16 once the course's slight quickness is removed. Both marks are forty seconds or more off the 18:14.7 she won state with, and the statewide list has stopped ranking her on the November number for exactly that reason.

In her own class, none of that matters yet. She is the only girl in 2A who has broken 19:00 in 2026, she has beaten every 2A girl she has raced, including an eighth grader you will meet on the 1A list who made her work for the Kowboy win, and the champion's spot is hers until somebody takes a race off her. Nobody in this class has even tried.

2. Kate Brice, Episcopal (Jacksonville), Jr. (P)

Third in 2A at state in 18:36.8, the best returning mark in the class, and still no 2026 race. The wait could end Saturday: Episcopal is entered at the Florida Horse Park Invitational, where Brice ran 18:55.1 for fifth last September. One race on that grass and the top of this class becomes an argument instead of a guess.

3. Daniela Hernandez, Carrollton (Miami), Sr. (P)

Fourth in 2A at state in 18:45.2, and Carrollton remains the quietest good team in Florida: two weeks, zero starters, four girls still ranked on last November between this page and the team list. The projection holds third. The patience required to keep writing that sentence is running low.

4. Sofie Stam, Bolles, So.

Idle in week two, and her week-one line still reads well: 19:20.0 at Cecil, eighteen seconds off her state mark in the deepest field in Florida, as a sophomore. She remains the best evidence among the girls in this class who have actually raced, Vignier aside.

5. Esther Dobbin, Cocoa Beach, 8th grade

The wildest new line in 2A. Dobbin won the Cocoa Beach Tuesday Night Invite in 20:28.2, more than two and a half minutes clear of the field, running essentially alone from the gun. The course ran slow, and priced onto neutral ground the run is worth about 19:24, and we have taken the most cautious of the available readings to get there.

She is an eighth grader, Cocoa Beach is a junior-senior high so she is varsity-eligible, and she has no state history because she has never had a season. One race, no field to push her, a conversion doing real work: every caution flag applies, and she still prices out fifth in the class. If that number is even close to real, 2A has a five-year problem.

6. Lily Ghavami, Berkeley Prep (Tampa), Jr.

The first of the sit-out programs to blink. Ghavami opened at Whispering Pines with 19:34.0 for seventh, worth about 19:39 leveled, a solid fourteen seconds up on her 19:53.6 from state. It is exactly what a projection is supposed to turn into: a slightly better number with a race attached. She moves ahead of three girls who still have not run.

7. Graziana Gowdy, Episcopal (Jacksonville), So. (P)

The best improvement profile in the class is still sitting in the garage. A freshman who ran 19:08.9 at state usually comes back meaningfully better, and if Episcopal's entry at the Horse Park includes her, Saturday is where we find out. Until then she is ranked on November, and November just got passed by a girl who raced.

8. Lyla McMillen, Montverde Academy, Jr. (P)

Sixteenth in 2A at state in 19:15.3, and Montverde has still not raced anyone in 2026, boys or girls. The boys are entered at the Horse Park on Saturday; whether the girls make the trip too is the difference between this projection getting tested this weekend or sitting through a third silent week.

9. Gabriella Socarras, Carrollton (Miami), Sr. (P)

Seventeenth in 2A at state in 19:17.3, Carrollton's second scorer, same story as Hernandez. The stack of projections between sixth and tenth on last week's list is thinning out one raced result at a time, and she is now the last of it.

10. Madison Easton, Oasis (Cape Coral), Jr.

Two races, both useful. Easton was second at the Lehigh Invite in week one and third at the Cape Coral Seahawk Invite on Saturday in 20:27.5, which the slow course prices at about 19:49, right at her 19:50.5 from state. A girl who defends her November mark twice in August while half her class stays home earns the last spot, and that is precisely what the last spot is for.

Just missed

Rebecca Lee (Edgewood, So.) and Holland McKinney (Episcopal, So.) both slid off the page without racing, Lee from ninth and McKinney from tenth, pushed by Dobbin, Ghavami and Easton. Lee's 19:54 at Cecil is still the fourth-best raced mark in the class; she is the first name back in if a newcomer's conversion proves too generous.

Molly Taylor (Berkeley Prep, Jr.) is the week's hard case. Ranked eighth as a projection on her 19:20.9 from state, she raced Whispering Pines alongside Ghavami and ran 19:51.2, worth about 19:56 leveled. She had the chance to defend the November number and did not, so she is ranked on what she ran, which is just off the page. Her teammate passed her going the other way in the same race.

Lauren Murphy (Trinity Catholic, Jr.) ran 19:52.0 at Whispering Pines, worth about 19:57, and sits with Taylor. Claire Chanon (Cardinal Gibbons, Sr.) is the best remaining projection off the page. Barbarita Jedlicka (St. John Paul II, So.), eleventh a week ago by six tenths, raced the Jupiter Invite well off her November form and drops back on the same rule as Taylor.

How we ranked them

• Courses do not all run the same speed, so we do not compare raw times. Cecil Field is the yardstick; for other meets we use girls who raced both that course and last year's state meet to work out what a time was worth.
• The girls' fields run noticeably slower in August than at state in November, and that gap is built into every number here.
• Girls who have not opened are ranked on last November and marked (P). Girls who raced and came up short are ranked on what they ran, which is what moves Taylor and Jedlicka off the page.
• Cocoa Beach's course rating leans on a small sample, so Dobbin's conversion uses the most cautious of the available readings. Kowboy runs slightly fast and Cape Coral runs slow; both priced cleanly.
• Eighth graders are varsity-eligible at schools that include middle grades, which is how Dobbin ranks here.
• Grades and classes are 2026-27, resolved against the FHSAA classification documents where a school is missing from the returner files.
