Ranking writeups
#4 — 2A Girls Week 1
The best August run by anyone in this class besides Vignier. Stam was tenth in 2A at state in 19:02.4 as a freshman and finished 21st in the Cecil Elite race in 19:20.0 — 18 seconds off her state mark on a day the field averaged 28.8 seconds slower. She beat her own projection by eleven seconds.
That is a modest number and a meaningful one, because of who it came against and who it came alongside. Bolles is the best 2A girls team that actually raced this weekend, and Stam was its only runner who ran to form: her teammates finished 20:30, 20:31 and 21:31. She carried the program by herself in the hardest race available.
She is ranked fourth rather than higher because the two projections above her are 15 and 6 seconds faster on the board and neither has been given a chance to fail. If Brice and Hernandez stay home again, that argument gets harder to make.
