Team ranking writeups
#1 — 2A Girls Week 1 · 70 points — (P)
5-woman average 19:54.8 · 1-5 spread 1:35.8 · finished 2-5-10-20-33 · projected
Seventy points. In a 39-team class, a perfect score is 15, and Episcopal's projected five would finish 2nd, 5th, 10th, 20th and 33rd against everyone else's best.
Kate Brice 19:05.6 (18:36.8 at state), Graziana Gowdy 19:37.7 (19:08.9), Holland McKinney 19:56.0 (19:27.2), Stella Krueger 20:13.2 (19:44.4), Audrey Brice 20:41.4 (20:12.6), with Eve Sauvageau 20:55.1 as a sixth. Three of the top ten individuals in the class, on one roster, none of whom has raced.
That last part is the strange one. Episcopal's boys ran at Cecil Field — sixteen of them, across the Elite and C races, and they rank ninth in 2A on what they ran. The girls did not enter. Whatever the reason, the program was at the meet.
Episcopal is fifth in Florida across all classes on this projection, ahead of every 4A and 3A team except three. It is also entirely untested, and the gap to second here is 42 points, which is not the kind of margin that survives a bad fifth runner.
#9 — 2A Boys Week 1 · 290 points
5-man average 18:15.8 · 1-5 spread 1:07.0 · finished 35-36-66-74-79 · Cecil Field
Grayson Smith and Rick Schultz both 17:39.0, Dylan Patterson 18:34.0, William Bunch 18:41.0, Chase Fallucco 18:46.0, with Joshua Oche 18:46.0 level as a sixth and Teddy Formoso 19:10.0 seventh. A 1:07 spread and five of the first 79 — this is a real team result on the anchor course with nothing borrowed and nothing projected.
Two points behind McKeel with a 3:08-worse front end, which is the same argument as Wolfson's, made two ranks lower.
#5 — Overall Girls Week 1 · 367 (P)
Six returners averaging 19:26.0 at state inside 1:35.8, converting to 19:54.8. Kate Brice 19:05.6 leads, and the class rank is the headline: projected first in 2A at 50 points, in a class where the best team that actually raced — Bolles — sits sixteenth overall.
2A is the class where sitting out costs the least, because there is nobody in it running fast enough in August to make the absence look like a risk.
