We entered every team on the Florida Horse Park entry list into our Race Simulator and scored all four races on course-graded 2026 marks: Belen Jesuit wins the boys without Mantecon, Creekside beats Chiles by eight, and the middle school boys come down to two points.

Florida Horse Park Invitational, hosted by Vanguard. Florida Horse Park, Ocala. Saturday, September 5, 2026. High school 5K, middle school 3K.

The entry list for Saturday is out: 110 programs on the boys' side and 99 on the girls', from Belen Jesuit to a long tail of clubs and middle schools. We took every one of them, put them into our Race Simulator, and scored the four races the way Saturday will score them: high school boys, high school girls, middle school boys, middle school girls. Every runner is entered on the best thing he or she has run in 2026, leveled to a common course. Top seven per team, five score.

The short version. Belen Jesuit 3A wins the boys' race by 28 points with a lineup that does not include Marcelo Mantecon or David Jaramillo, because neither has raced yet. Creekside 4A beats Chiles 3A by eight in the girls' race, and Ponte Vedra 3A is third on the course rating we trust least. The middle school boys' race is Hillsborough Harriers over Red Sea Running Club by two points, and it flips if you score it on raw times. Red Sea's girls are not close to anybody.

Our preview from the weekend covered the course, last year's race and the names to watch. This is the arithmetic behind it, all of it, so you can argue with it before the gun.

About the times. Every mark below is the time the runner actually ran, and where. The last column is what that time is worth on the reference course, which is what the scoring uses: Cecil Field for the high school races, the Jim Ryun Invitational course for the middle school 3K. On the reference course there is only one number. A dagger (†) means the course has no rating yet and the raw time stands in. A team needs five runners with a 2026 mark to score. The teams that do not have that are listed after each race, and some of them are big.

High school boys: Belen by 28, and second place is a course rating

Belen scores 67: Armando Cruz (Sr.) first in 15:06.0, Jack Michalak (Jr.) seventh, Liam Salom (Sr.) tenth, then Nicholas Veloso (Jr.) and Dominic De Armas (So.) 24th and 25th. Five-man average 15:54.4, all of it from Cecil Field on August 21, the only day they have raced. Mantecon, who won here in 15:10.8 last September, is not in that lineup. Neither is Jaramillo. If either one runs Saturday, the score gets smaller and the argument gets shorter.

Second is Flagler Palm Coast 4A at 95, and here is the honest problem with it. All seven Flagler marks come from Spikes & Spurs, and the simulator rates that course 43 seconds slow for boys off a thin sample. Douglas Seth (So.) ran 15:59.5 there and is entered at 15:16.4, third in the field. Score the same race on best times with no course ratings at all and Flagler drops to fourth and Bolles 2A moves up to second. Bolles is fourth on the graded scoring at 195 with a 56-second spread, the tightest five in the top ten, and Brantley Rigdon (Jr.) in front at 16:04.0. Those two teams are the swing in this race, and the Horse Park will settle it, because it is the fairest course either of them will see before November.

Lake Minneola 4A is third at 188 on Quentin Thompson (Sr.) 15:16.0 and a front four inside 27th place, then a 123rd-place fifth man and a 2:42 spread. The host, Vanguard 3A, is fifth at 225 on its Whispering Pines lineup, four boys between 21st and 39th and nobody under 16:19 on the leveled scale. Fifth on raw times too, same score. Ponte Vedra 3A is sixth at 230 with Luke Ross (Sr.) fourth in the field, also off Spikes & Spurs, with the same caveat attached.

Newsome 4A, George Steinbrenner 4A, Tavares 3A and Creekside 4A fill out the top ten. Jonas Williams (Newsome, Sr.) is fifth in the field on his 16:16.5 at Lake Region, and Liam Ilea (Tavares, Jr.) sixth on the 16:00.6 he ran at Whispering Pines. Down the list, Pensacola Christian 1A is 17th with a 55.8-second spread, tighter than any team above it.

Sean Cunningham (Providence, Sr., 1A), third here last year, is 26th in the field on his 16:23.0 opener at Cecil and takes no scoring place, because Providence has four runners with a mark and needs five.

Teams the simulator cannot score. Bishop Kenny 3A, ninth in our statewide boys' team list on projection, has not raced. Neither has Gulliver Prep 2A, second in Class 2A, nor Braddock 4A, Columbus 4A, Montverde Academy 2A or Doral Academy 4A. Montverde's entry is the one that matters most individually: Will Moss (Sr.), the 2A champion, has not opened. Carrollwood 1A, George Jenkins 4A, Providence 1A and St. John Lutheran 1A have four runners with a mark; Foundation Academy 1A and Weeki Wachee 3A have three; Port St. Lucie and Riviera Prep 1A have two.

High school girls: Creekside by eight, and Ponte Vedra's third place is a rating too

Creekside 4A scores 113: Eva Delaney (So.) sixth in 18:57.0, Emma Godfrey (Fr.) tenth, Ivey Edgell (So.) 13th, Hadleigh Roberts (Jr.) 17th, all from Cecil Field, then a gap to 67th. Chiles 3A is eight points back at 121, and its five is the better shape: Emma-Claire Tanenbaum (So.) 18:48.0 and Kaia Ables (Sr.) 18:59.0 in fifth and eighth, then 27th, 34th and 47th on a 1:52 spread. Creekside's first four score 46 to Chiles' 74. Chiles' fifth girl beats Creekside's fifth by twenty places. That is the whole race.

Ponte Vedra 3A is third at 165 with Piper Ross (Fr.) fourth in the field and Savannah LaVasser (Sr.) ninth. Both marks are from Spikes & Spurs, where the girls' rating is a 52-second discount scaled up from the boys' number, because too few girls ran both that meet and state to rate it on its own. Score on raw times and Ponte Vedra is sixth. Lourdes 3A is fourth at 170 with the steadier case: Sofia Jimenez (So.), Alessandra Perez (Sr.) and Marisa Mantecon (So.) 15th, 20th and 22nd, all from Cecil.

The host is fifth. Vanguard 3A scores 208 on Lyla Hallick (So.) third in the field at 18:37.0 from Cecil Field. Her faster 18:25.4 at Whispering Pines does not count for more, because the simulator rates that course twenty seconds fast for girls. That same rating is why Oak Hall 1A, seventh on raw times, is 11th here, and why Reese Cartwright (Vanguard, Sr.) and Lily Ghavami (Berkeley Prep, Jr.) sit lower than their times look.

Sunlake 4A is seventh at 289 with every one of its seven marks from Lecanto, a course the simulator has not rated, so their raw times stand as run. Ana Cecilia Maia Menard (So.) is 19th in the field on that basis. Fleming Island 3A is 17th, and its 1:10 spread is the tightest of any scoring team in the girls' race.

At the front, Natalia Gaona-Zelaya (Wiregrass Ranch, Sr., 4A) is first, worth 18:05 on her 18:40.3 from Ragin’ Storm, and Wiregrass Ranch is 12th as a team with a 4:33 spread behind her. Lainee Mercer (Springstead, Jr., 3A) is second in the field at 19:11.3 from the same race; Springstead is 29th as a team. Annabella Tomasic is not in the field. Nobody at Bishop Moore has a 2026 mark, and the simulator does not project.

Teams the simulator cannot score. Bishop Moore 3A, Episcopal 2A (first in Class 2A and fifth statewide on projection, and last year's champion here), Carrollton 2A, Gulliver Prep 2A, Montverde Academy 2A, Braddock 4A, Doral Academy 4A, Carrollwood 1A and Riviera Prep 1A have not raced. Cambridge Christian 1A, Kirkland Ranch Academy and South Florida HEAT 1A have four runners with a mark; Belleview 3A, North Marion 3A, St. John Lutheran 1A and Weeki Wachee 3A have three; Jacksonville Classical 1A and Port St. Lucie have two.

Middle school boys: two points, and the order flips on raw times

Hillsborough Harriers 44, Red Sea Running Club 46, WIND Runners 55. RJ Destremps (Hillsborough Harriers, 8th), No. 1 on our middle school list, is first in 10:08.4 from the Jim Ryun Invitational, and the Harriers put four more between sixth and 14th. Red Sea does it the other way: nobody in the top three, five boys between fourth and 15th on a 44-second spread. WIND Runners have the second and third boys in the field, Maxwell Claypool 10:36.5 and Parker Whittamore 10:54.4, and lose it at the fourth and fifth, 20th and 23rd.

Score it on raw times instead and Red Sea wins, 46 to 53. The difference is Imagine Town Center and the Boca Warriors, whose best marks come from the Indian River Fairgrounds, which the simulator rates about 31 seconds fast for middle school boys. That moves Aidan Moylan (Imagine Town Center, 8th) from a 10:38.7 to a rated 11:09.8 and reshuffles the places around Red Sea's pack. Boca Warriors Track Club has three boys with a mark, Banks Stroup, Brayden Milek and Logan Minors, ninth, tenth and 11th in the field, and no fourth or fifth to score. Jack Ilea (Red Sea, 6th) is fourth in the field at 11:07.9.

Not scoreable: Boca Warriors Track Club (three runners with a mark), WCNT Mustangs (two), More Runners Corp (one), and Belleview Middle, Carrollwood Day, Osceola Middle, Queen of Peace and Sunlake Academy, none of whom have a 3K mark in our database yet.

Middle school girls: Red Sea, then daylight

Red Sea Running Club scores 28 with Alice Ilea (8th) first in 11:05.9 from Jim Ryun, No. 2 on our middle school girls' list, then Kayla Santos, Lilliana Gutfreind, Amelia Hernandez (6th) and Alizeah Miller in fourth, fifth, seventh and 11th. Imagine Town Center is second at 52 on Mia Kopcikova (8th) third in the field, and Hillsborough Harriers third at 58 with Bailey Eggleston (8th) second in 11:53.8. The same Indian River rating that costs Imagine's boys costs their girls: about 30 seconds, so Kopcikova's 11:40.6 counts as 12:10.

Only six girls' teams have five runners with a 3K mark. Httr Tornadoes, Ivy Hawn Charter and RLC have four apiece, WCNT Mustangs three, and Layne Schiebel (Httr Tornadoes, 7th) is fifth in the field without a team score to go with it. Belleview Middle, Osceola Middle, Queen of Peace and Sunlake Academy have no mark on file.

What the entry list has that our database does not

Some entered programs have no 2026 result on file with us and could not be entered at all: Bell 1A, Cedar Key 1A, Chiefland 1A, Trenton 1A, Keystone Heights 2A, Plant City 4A, Liberty Christian Prep, Woodward Academy, Dunnellon Middle, Liberty Middle, Cornerstone Classical's middle school, Foundation Elementary, VCMS, and the club and youth entries (HFCS Lions Running, Miami Vice Project, NEXT, Team FTC Kids, Powerrunning45, The Cornerstone School, Zoo Ink Track, SV Performance Training). A team that has only raced at a meet whose results we have not loaded is in the same boat. If your team is missing, that is a data gap, not a judgment.

Notes on the numbers

  • All four races were run in the Race Simulator on course-graded times, with the field limited to the teams on the meet's entry list. Each table above links to its race; switch the toggle to best times to see the raw version.
  • Each runner enters on their best 2026 mark once every course is leveled to the reference: Cecil Field for the high school 5K, the Jim Ryun Invitational for the middle school 3K. Ratings come from runners who ran both a 2026 meet and last year's state meet, FHSAA for high school and FLYRA for middle school. Courses with too few of those are unrated and marked †.
  • Spikes & Spurs is rated off fourteen boys and scaled for the girls, and every Flagler Palm Coast and Ponte Vedra mark carries it. Whispering Pines rates slow for boys and fast for girls in this math, the same softness we flagged in the week 2 team lists. The Indian River middle school rating is generous to everyone who ran there. Where a rating decides a place, we have said so above.
  • The simulator does not project. A team without five 2026 marks does not score, whatever it returns. That is why Bishop Kenny, Episcopal and Bishop Moore are missing from the standings, and Braddock, Gulliver Prep and Columbus with them.
  • The Horse Park itself graded essentially even with Cecil Field last September, so the leveled times above are close to what a good day on this course looks like.
  • The simulator recomputes its course ratings from the full results database, so they can differ by a few seconds from the figures in our weekly rankings posts.

Built from the meet's team entry list. An entered team is not a declared roster: Belen Jesuit is entered, and whether Marcelo Mantecon is on the card is a separate question. The same goes for Bishop Moore and Annabella Tomasic.

The names behind these numbers are in our week 2 rankings: the boys top ten, the girls top ten and the middle school top tens. The Horse Park preview has the course and last year's race. We will have the results and what they mean next week.
