Alyson Johnson of Creekside High School enters her sophomore cross country season as one of the top young talents in Florida. Despite her youth, Johnson is already a two-time Class 4A state champion and AAU national champion. She placed 6th at last year’s state meet and now has her sights set on the individual title. With her outstanding freshman campaign, Johnson is looking to join the conversation as one of the best prep runners from Florida. A state title would further elevate her status.

1A Season Preview – Girls Teams

The 2023 1A girls cross country season in Florida pits defending state champion Oak Hall against 2021 champ Cambridge Christian in an intense rivalry for the title. Cambridge brings back individual champ Eliana Black and adds key transfer Ava Hendrix. Oak Hall seeks its 5th title in 6 years. Maclay School is a dark horse contender behind the Koeppel sisters. Pensacola Christian, Circle Christian and the Benjamin School also have podium potential. Top individuals include Black, RaeAnne Tutton, Reagan Smith, Mackenzie Klein, Ava Wyant and Rachel Judy. The team race appears to be between Oak Hall and Cambridge, but Maclay could surprise for their first title since 2005.
